   ERTFS-ProPlus64 World's 1st FAT64 file system

EBS introduces Industry's 1st FAT64 file system. FAT64 technology in ERTFS ProPlus-64 overcomes FAT32's inherent technical limitations. FAT64 technology is useful in the development of advanced consumer devices like set tops, DVRs, digital video cameras or scientific devices that must store or retrieve large data sets in muti-gigabyte volumes.

The FAT 32 file system has been maligned over the years for its shortcomings. Shortcomings often mentioned are a lack of time determinism, lack of 64 bit files, poor seek performance, lack of control over block placement policies, simplistic allocation policies, no guaranteed contiguous allocation, no support for transaction processing and of course risk of volume structure corruption during
system halts.

Breaking the 4 Gigabyte Barrier - EBSís FAT64 technology in ERTFS ProPlus64 overcomes each one of these perceived limitations of a FAT32 file system. The advanced structure of FAT64 lends itself to efficient Failsafe volume integrity protection, efficient 64 bit file IO, precise fragmentation management and de-fragmentation support, zero disk latency seek operations and sophisticated hybrid circular-linear files to required to implement media record and display applications such as Video player/recorders.

The need for FAT64 - A recent Gartner report predicts that advanced DVD players and Personal Video Recorder (PVRs) will dominate future digital home. These modern digital video recorders and digital video and audio players will have multi-gigabyte volumes and will be designed to feed in real-time media files which will be many gigabytes long. For such systems limitations such as 4 Gigabyte file size imposed by a FAT 32 file system cannot be acceptable. These high performance Audio Visual devices have high performance and real time requirements most of which cannot be met by traditional FAT32 file systems.

ERTFS ProPlus64 offers a royalty free solution which provides all important full backwards compatibility with FAT32 guaranteeing that the FAT64 files will be accessible with a traditional personal computer. This ensures that the electronic device industry will retain its investment in royalty free FAT technology and FAT will for years remain the dominant format for removable media in consumer devices.

EBS introduces ETRFSProPlus64 , a fat based embedded file system, as a solution of choice for implementing a 64 bit Digital Video Recorder (DVR) at Windriverís - 2006 Worldwide User Conference in Orlando.
